Mixing up the neighborhood since 2018

Barrowboy began the way most ideas begin; over a beer. We’d discussed it for years and it had taken on many iterations and many names: A dine-in fishmongers and wine bar (My Other Lover), late night burgers and hard shakes (The Gaslight Café), a salt-beef bagel and beer shop (Hole-in-One) and an ice cream parlour serving cocktails somewhere on the coast (The Cat and the Cream).
There were some… interesting ideas. Really, we always wanted to do something in Sheffield. We started seriously looking at Meersbrook, Netheredge and Abbeydale. We almost took the venue up the road (now Two-Thirds), but things kept getting in the way. It wasn’t the right time.
A year or so passed and then 453 came up, Shah’s old Grocery Store. We decided it was now or never. The name Barrowboy was a nod to the hundred-year history the venue had of being a grocery store. The old ideas went out the window and we decided we’d make the bar we wanted to go to. Something for the neighborhood, where everyone knows your name!
So, welcome to Barrowboy. Enjoy our mouthwatering cocktail menu,  rotating craft beers in the fridge and ice cold brews on the tap, as well as a delicious selection of wines and the best bao buns around by our pals, Deckards. Come for the chilled, friendly atmosphere in the week, and hang-out with us for a boogie on the weekend.
We love ya. x
